Understanding Glass Insulating Basics

insulating window diagramEvery insulating glass package has four basic components: the glass, the gas, the spacer and the glass panes.

The Glass
ProSolar glass packages feature a Low E coating for improved efficiency. Unlike clear glass, ProSolar Low E coatings help lower heating and cooling costs.

The Gas
Optional Argo gas is sealed between the glass panes. This odorless, non-toxic gas is six times denser than air, so it insulates better.

The Spacer
Insulating glass units have at least two panes of glass and these feature unique spacer systems. These specially designed spacers are placed between the glass panes and to hold the panes in place and are designed to further reduce temperature transfer.

The Panes
A pane is single sheet of glass in a window or door. Insulating windows and doors are comprised of at least two panes of glass.
